James Turrell
Turrell’s work Dawning, produced for Magasin 3 and this exhibition, is the first and only permanent installation at Magasin 3 Stockholm Konsthall. The darkened room dedicated to the work contains within it a light of indefinable dimensions and of a tactile quality. The exhibition at Magasin 3 also features other works by Turrell, including Key Lime, Blind Sight and Still Light. Turrell, who finds inspiration in his experience as a professional aviator, says all of his installations aim to capture the light and visual purity that can otherwise only be experienced in dreams and fantasy. James Turrell was born in 1943 in Los Angeles, and now lives in Arizona where he has worked on the huge Roden Crater project since 1975.
