James Lee Byars
James Lee Byars was born in 1932 in Detroit, Michigan, he died when he was 65 years old in 1997 in Cairo, Egypt.
Selected solo exhibitions include Magasin 3 Stockholm Konsthall (1992); Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, Germany (1986); Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (1971); Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh (1964) and Museum of Modern Art, New York (1958). He has also been devoted with several of solo presentations after his death, including the 57th Venice Biennale (2017); Museo Jumex, Mexico City (2013) and The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (2004).
Group exhibitions include Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York (2019); Fondazione Prada, Milan (2016); the 55th Venice Biennale (2013); Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (2012); Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris (1996); Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (1994) and documenta VIII, Kassel (1987).
