On the Movement at This Time ✧ Artist Book Launch
Thursday | 25.6.2026 | Free admission
In On the Movement at This Time, Carmel Harari sets out on a journey, meeting different figures, engaging in conversations with them, and creating dialogues with various texts. The book was created as her final project at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. It presents the compelling voice of an artist seeking to give meaning to her practice and to her presence in this place and at this time.
“This book is my counter-response – I decided I could no longer remain within the comfort of my own withdrawal. This reality has been going on for too long. I took myself outside and set out on a wandering journey through Israeli society.”
Narratively, the book follows the movement of the narrator-researcher as she moves between different parts of Israeli society. She begins her journey from the place most familiar to her: the city of Tel Aviv, where she was born and raised. She wanders briefly through the streets surrounding her parents’ home, Dizengoff Square, the nearby streets, and the human landscape around her, writing: “I know myself. The square from which I emerged is clear.” Later, a sequence of drawings accompanies Harari and her parents on their way to a protest on Kaplan Street. The stream of people grows stronger as they move eastward.
