Magasin III’s reference library was located next to the museum entrance before we left our premises in Frihamnen in Stockholm. The library was both used internally by the museum’s staff and open to visitors interested in learning more about contemporary art, architecture, and design. Most of the library’s books were directly connected to our history and our exhibition program, but some available titles also related to the arts in a wider context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reference library, which was located in what used to be an exhibition hall, was designed in 2020 by the architectural firm DinellJohansson<\/a> in close dialogue with Magasin III. The library was arranged as a room within the room, giving the possibility to continuously exhibit art in the room. The short sides of the library were repurposed from a previous library located in the museum’s entrance, designed by John Robert Nilsson. As a marker of our history, we also decided to keep the ceiling lights along the walls that previously illuminated all our exhibition halls.

The artist Oscar Guermouche (b. 1977) created the site-specific work The Fireman<\/a> in 2020 for the library. Read more about the work here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
