The evening\u2019s conversation will center on a drawing by Ernst Josephson that has recently become a part of Magasin III’s collection.\u00a0Museum director David Neuman has invited two of Sweden’s experts on Ernst Josephson, Ulf Abel and Peter Cornell, to discuss one of the artist’s drawings, which has recently become part of our collection. It is one in a series of over 100 drawings called “andeprotokoll,” which Josephson\u00a0created during a time of mental illness. They are\u00a0a sort of record of spiritual visitations, all of which follow a fixed format.\u00a0After the talk there will be an opportunity to see the exhibition\u00a0<\/span>The Drawing Room,<\/em>\u00a0where three of Josephson’s works are on view.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201dIt is an incredible opportunity to hear two of Sweden\u2019s experts speak about Ernst Josephson and his postition as one of Sweden\u2019s master artists. Josephson\u2019s style is entirely his own, bridging space and time, and is therefore\u00a0as contemporary as Jockum Nordstr\u00f6m. Could this be why everyone loves Josephson\u2019s work so much…?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

About the speakers<\/h2>\n

Ulf Abel<\/strong>\u00a0holds a doctorate in art history.\u00a0He has worked for many years at Nationalmuseum, where he was responsible for the icon collection. Among Abel’s areas of research are Byzantine and Russian art, as well as early 20th century Swedish art. His publications include\u00a0<\/span>Ikonen – bilden av det heliga<\/em>,\u00a0<\/span>Nationalmuseum Icons<\/em>,\u00a0<\/span>Ikonen – den besj\u00e4lade bilden<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Ernst Josephson<\/em>.<\/span>

Peter Cornell<\/strong>\u00a0is an art critic and former professor of Modern Art Theory and the History of Ideas at Konstfack (The University College of Arts, Crafts and Design) and The Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm.
